Canada’s fields are ready for AI. Is Ottawa?

Guelph, Ontario, Canada

Shaun Vey Hill Times

In an op-ed for The Hill Times, Syngenta Canada President Shaun Vey makes the case that Canada’s agriculture sector is ready for AI, and Syngenta is already leading the way. While Ottawa has made promising commitments to rural broadband, R&D, and productivity, the federal government needs to go further.

Shaun has three asks of government:

  • Name agriculture explicitly in Canada’s AI strategy

  • Build farmer-first adoption frameworks that share the risk

  • Regulate with industry at the table, not ahead of it

“When Canadian farmers have the right tools and the right environment, they don’t just adapt – they innovate and lead.”
