The Canadian canola crush remained strong in September, slipping slightly from August but still posting a substantial increase compared to a year earlier.
A Statistics Canada crush report on Wednesday showed domestic processors crushed 1.228 million tonnes of canola in September, down 0.7% from 1.237 million in August but up 21.9% from the 1.007 million processed in September 2025.
Despite the modest monthly decline, the strong September performance helped push cumulative crushing during the first two months of the 2026-27 crop year well ahead of the previous year's pace.
The combined August-September crush reached 2.465 million tonnes, an increase of 31.5% from the 1.875 million processed during the same two months of 2025-26.
The latest figures reflect continued strong demand from Canada's domestic canola processing industry, which has expanded significantly in recent years with the addition of new crushing capacity.
Meanwhile, canola oil production totalled 519,321 tonnes in September, down 2.1% from 530,654 in August but 22.1% above the 425,330 produced in September last year. Canola meal production reached 713,998 tonnes, down 1.5% from 724,916 in August but 21.1% higher than the 589,724 produced a year earlier.
Agriculture Canada is projecting the 2026-27 full year canola crush at a new record high of 13.9 million tonnes, up about 1 million from the previous year.
